Love Your Library

My mum once said to me that, when she was a child, she was completely flabbergasted that you could actually borrow books for free. All this knowledge, all this exploring, all this fun...for free. Books for free! It's wonderful! You can also search catalogues, maps and records, use the computers and (for a small fee) you can even borrow DVDs, CDs and audio books. As well as providing a wealth of information, libraries also run a range of activities such as book clubs, author talks, computer sessions as well as events for children.

Although deceptively quiet, libraries are the hub of a community. Children, parents, teenagers, adults and the elderly can all come to the library and all get so much out of it.

Sadly UK libraries are currently facing closures, staff and spending cuts and the reduction of opening hours. In this day and age where everything has a price, the library is one of the few places you are always welcome, even if you have lost your purse.

I love libraries. If you feel the same way, I urge you to go and declare your love for libraries too and it is my hope that together we can protect their place in our communities.
